Challenges of a Diverse Europe
|
The foundations of a DVB-T network are based on the suite of DVB specifications but are subject to various option choices, local requirements and specification interpretation resulting in different networks in each country. Higher level specifications such as E-Book are really frameworks, enabling country network implementers to incorporate specific requirements for their own local needs. Additionally, real networks are based on different interpretations of the specifications, have implementation errors and sometimes simply do not conform. The result is that each country has a customised network with its own specific and often idiosyncratic requirements. Without specialist testing services, receiver manufacturers can struggle to understand these complex requirements and find it increasingly difficult to build efficient and productive test environments.

Evora iSuite Pan-European DVB-T/C Test Suite
Digital TV Labs has the world’s first pan-European DVB-T/C test suite. The test suite ensures DVB receivers conform to the differing DVB network requirements of each country across Europe. With thousands of test cases and hundreds of custom test streams, Evora iSuite ensures all aspects of a receiver's operation are tested. Covering the major specifications including E-Book, D-Book , NorDig Unified, and DGTVi, receiver manufacturers can ensure products conform to current and future broadcasting demands. Continuously evolving to keep pace with the dynamic DVB environment, the test suite is built on years of DVB experience in the Digital TV Labs team. The Evora iSuite supports both MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC including standard (SD) and high definition (HD) services. Tests include encrypted pay TV services and Common Interface (CI) CAM interoperability testing.

Step Improvement from Conventional Testing
Suppliers of DVB-T receivers need to test that products function correctly in each of Europe’s DVB-T country markets, ensuring compliance to local standards and specific network requirements, thereby assuring a quality end-user experience. Until now, suppliers have used inefficient ad-hoc, in-house testing and field testing on a country by country basis allowing only limited testing coverage to validate product operation. This approach is highly ineffective, often leads to issues in the field with poor user experiences and inevitably results in high return rates. Digital TV Labs software testing enables suppliers to deliver quality, thoroughly tested products quickly across multiple European markets.
Wide and In-Denth Test Coverage
The conventional approach of testing a receiver with a recorded test stream or at a small number of field test sites is inefficient and provides only a snapshot of the network characteristics, resulting in a high number of retail product returns. Using this method it is impossible to test all the service variations, boundary conditions and currently unimplemented network features. Digital TV Labs test suites provide systematic country by country conformance tests by testing all of the permutations and possible service scenarios for each specific country. Test cases are included for common network implementation errors, thus ensuring good receiver behaviour when faced with non-conformant and uncharacteristic broadcasts.
Specification Future Proofing
|
Network operators are continuously adding new services and features, usually within the constraints of the existing specification. Digital TV Labs testing can help ensure adherence to all aspects of the specification, thereby future-proofing receivers and leading to a reduction in later warranty returns or over-air-downloads. |

Minimises Debug and Re-test Time
Digital TV Labs provides comprehensive test reports with detailed error descriptions, allowing rapid result diagnosis and problem isolation. To enable bug repeatability, we provide hosting services at both our UK and Taiwan test centres. Combined with expert advice provided by our experienced test engineers on likely problem causes, clients can minimize engineering time and reduce the effort and resources involved in developing and validating DVB-T implementations.
